Featured Artist - Empty Heart Creations

Who are you? Lisa M. Bello

What is your Etsy Shop Name/link? EmptyHeartCreations - http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5295534

What tag categories do you specialize in? jewelry, guitar straps

Do you create for children or adults, women or men? adults.. mostly women but I have had quite a few guys buy my guitar straps!

What do you like about Etsy? Oh what is there NOT to like? The community, the craftsmanship, the variety (you really can find anything on Etsy) and most importantly the ability to buy all handmade!

Where do you find inspiration for your products? music (Smashing Pumpkins, Hole, Juliana Hatfield, Tegan and Sara), books, my active imagination.

What do you love about your business? the fact that I can make whatever I want, whenever I want and no one is above or below me. I can just be myself.

What is your favorite product right now? It would have to be my two wrapped wire hearts: The Red One and the Dark Heart.

What makes you unique at Etsy? hmm.. My guitar straps don't look anything like any other guitar straps at Etsy and I don't see many wrapped seed bead pendants either.

What are some other sites to find out more about you and what you love to create? I am also a musician. Synthetic Sympathies is the name of the band I sing and play guitar in www.myspace.com/syntheticsympathies and I also have a personal website www.lisambello.com

Important Info on Fraud Protection

EtsyNJ member Greco Woodcrafting wrote a great blog post on how to protect yourself as a small business owner from getting tricked into accepting false credit cards, checks and cash. It's a must read! http://grecowoodcrafting.wordpress.com/2008/11/16/fraud-protection/

Featured Artist - Marjorie's Cracked Plate Jewelry

Who are you? Marjorie Cunningham

What is your Etsy Shop Name/link? http://marjoriescracked.etsy.com

What tag categories do you specialize in? jewelry, necklaces, pendants, bracelets, rings, earrings, brooches, anklets, broken china, wire wrap, wire crochet, sea glass, shell

Do you create for children or adults, women or men? Mostly women

What do you like about Etsy? I just joined it so am not too familiar with it. It seems like a friendly and reasonable place to sell products.

Where do you find inspiration for your products? I mostly find inspiration from the china itself. China has such a history to it and such beauty. Some china is hand painted by artist and is like a miniature piece of art. I usually do a bit of research on each piece of china that I use to find out when and where it was manufactured, whether it's hand painted and anything special about it. Plus I'm inspired by other jewelry designers that I've met.

What do you love about your business? I love being able to give new life to a broken piece of china. China holds such a special place in our lives. We attach memories and sentimental value to it. When a piece of china that we value has broken, we're heartbroken. I love being able to restore that china into a piece of jewelry that can be treasured for years to come. It's a very "green" business. I also create sea glass and shell jewelry, which, being from the Jersey Shore all my life, is right up my alley!

What is your favorite product right now? My wire crochet necklaces. I think the lacy look of the wire crochet beautifully complements the broken china pieces.

What makes you unique at Etsy? Most broken china jewelry designers use solder on the broken edges. Instead of solder, I file the edges completely smooth, varnish the edges and then wire wrap the piece. I think that technique lets me be much more creative in my designs. Plus I also wire crochet necklaces and bracelets, which isn't often done with broken china work.

What other street teams are you a member of? I'm in the process of joining EtsyVeg and EtsyForAnimals.

What are some other sites to find out more about you and what you love to create? http://www.marjoriescracked.com & http://marjoriescracked.blogspot.com

Featured Artist - Miss Emma's Closet

Who are you? Alison, wife and mom of two

What is your Etsy Shop Name/link? http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=5705715 and http://www.etsy.com/shop.php?user_id=6320332

What tag categories do you specialize in? baby, wedding, accessories for women and the home

Do you create for children or adults, women or men? I mainly create for women and children. I have a line of home decor coming out soon. I like to focus on shabby chic designs.

What do you like about Etsy? Ever since I can remember, I have been crafting. I love all things handmade. I think it is fabulous that Etsy has been created to allow people such as myself to show their designs, and for others to appreciate them. Oh and I really like the fact that you can keep track of your favorites. I have met some fantastic people through my favs.

Where do you find inspiration for your products? I love to go out on little excursions. I am always collecting in my travels. Anything can become something. I love to go to flea markets and antique stores, it's a great stepping stone for my original shabby chic designs. My husband laughs at me. He says, 'you're the only person I know that looks at a rusted old cake pan and gets excited about it!', and it's totally true.

What do you love about your business? I love that I can constantly do what I love. I can work when I want and I can design what I like. It is not uncommon for me to be feverishly sewing away at 2 A.M. It is my hope that my shop will be increasingly successful so that I can stay home full time with my kids. My daughter was born sick, the only child that they know of with her illness, it would be great to build my business up enough to leave my job.

What is your favorite product right now? Oh, I am so excited to incorporate the finds from my last trip excursion. I purchased a huge box of old spindles from a porch. Not your usual "product". I have about 20 or so different ideas for them, from feet on a foot stool, to handles on a box to the base of a candle stick, and a few other surprises! More conventionally, I am obsessed with fabric. I LOVE to go to the fabric store, all alone:)

What makes you unique at Etsy? I like to meld together new and old. It's great when I can take fabric from an old quilt and give it new life, or old molding from a house and turn it into a shelf. It is great to have the ability to work when I can and create things that I love, but I also have another mission here as well. I am taking 10% of the profits from my sales this year and donating them to my daughter's hospital. They have done so much for us, and have literally saved her life, it's the least that I can do to say thanks.

What other street teams are you a member of? EtsyNJ is my first team, YAY!!!

What are some other sites to find out more about you and what you love to create?

This little boy box is so adorable! It would be the perfect shower gift!!

What is your Etsy Shop Name/link? http://designdolcezza.etsy.com

What tag categories do you specialize in? Paper Goods (scrapbooks & cards)

Do you create for children or adults, women or men? My products appeal to people of all ages: usually adults do the scrapping and kids get scrapped!

What do you like about Etsy? Etsy shops provide big opportunity with little outlay or risks. For someone with a talent to share, what’s not to love? I particlularly enjoy learning on the forums and working with all of you on the EtsyNJ team. It’s great to be part of the handmade revolution.

Where do you find inspiration for your products? Lots of places! Inspiration is really everywhere. I think my husband and baby, my friends and neighbors, as well as my travels throughout America and Europe . Often, the patterned paper I’m working with will “tell” me what it wants to become.

What do you love about your business? I love working with my hands and preserving memories, which is so very important. Helping others do the same is truly rewarding.

What is your favorite product right now? My favorite is the lunchpail album it can function as beautiful décor, a fun conversation starter, and more importantly, it encourages people to save and share memories, their real treasures, with anyone who enters their home. What a welcome!

What makes you unique at Etsy? Having studied art at Rutgers University Mason Gross School of the Arts and the Louvre in Paris , as well a having seen in person much of the great art and architecture, my life experiences have given my unique eye for design. From 2004-2006, I was a member of the Design Team at http://www.theperfecttitle.com. I have completed Bachelors and Masters of Scrapbooking programs through Scrapbook Design University®, seminars at Memories Expo™, Creating Keepsakes Conventions. My work has been published in Memories Community Magazine and Scrapbooking your Wedding (Memory Makers Books, 2004). In creating my own hand-crafted art, I’ve found my true artistic calling and I’m here to share it!

We Shop Local, We Shop EtsyNJ, Part 2

Here at EtsyNJ, we love each other! Not only do we help promote each other, offer advice on pricing, handling difficult situations, taking great photos and so much more, but we also support each other by shopping! Just take a look at some of the things that EtsyNJ members have bought from each other. You'll recall from this post a few weeks ago, that we are our own best customers. Here's even more EtsyNJ love!

LizArti was so excited about her first 100 hearts (as she should be) that she celebrated by purchasing this necklace from Karin's Creations:

She also couldn't resist this vintage snowflake brooch from Made By Melissa and snapped it up instantly!

And she's really happy that she did!!

I'm sure you remember all the EtsyNJ shops that Creations By Danielle has supported, well, amazingly, here is one more!! Danielle bought these two barrettes from orchidsdream and here's what she has to say about that purchase: "I loved her hair accessories and asked her to custom make a barrette for me. She had two to chose from and I couldn't decide so I bought both! She was a pleasure to deal with. Promptly responding to convos and friendly person! :) I was very pleased."

Collective Elements is a big fan of Lemoncholy's work. She bought four items from her at the Handmade Faire this past April and has this to say about her: "She truly is a talented artist. I wear the dove necklace almost everyday and I always get compliments on it."

Wow! EtsyNJ members really take pride in each other and we take the Handmade Pledge seriously! Way to go team!!

Do you want to support EtsyNJ too? Click here to check out all EtsyNJ members! Did you buy something from EtsyNJ? Do you absolutely love it and want to share it with the world wide web? Simply send a convo to Made By Melissa and we'll feature it and your shop link on our blog!

What is your Etsy Shop Name/link? http://scraplisa.etsy.com

What tag categories do you specialize in? Scrapbooking, Cards, Tags, Judaica

Do you create for children or adults, women or men? Everyone who loves to take pictures!

What do you like about Etsy? I like that everything is handmade, that it is an international site that brings crafters together with like minded people.

Where do you find inspiration for your products? My wants and desires, I create items that my friends and I always want to use in our personal albums!

What do you love about your business? I love that people are preserving their cherished memories in something that I created, that current and future generations will be able to share in the daily lives, special occasions, and holidays that families celebrate year after year.

What is your favorite product right now? Right now, I love Die Cuts with a View Christmas Glitter Stack papers. Traditional Christmas colors jazzed up with silver and gold glitter. Really makes the pages go BLING!

What makes you unique at Etsy? I try to create items that anyone can use at an affordable price. If you like to take pictures, you can use my products with ease. I’m a stay at home mom, and always on the hunt for a good bargain so I price accordingly! Additionally, as a Jewish Scrapbooker, I have found it hard to buy any type of Judaica items to use in my work. It is my hope is to create beautiful Jewish items such as cards, invitations, tags, albums, etc., that people can use to make treasured, everlasting memories with their families.
